Actress Mercy Johnson Has Been Banned By Nollywood Marketers.

Mercy Johnson has been banned by Nollywood Marketers for being too expensive. This is funny, she has the right to decide her price and whoever that can't afford it should find someone else to play her role. I am disappointed in Nigerian movie marketers to an extent. Concentrating on Mercy Johnson and more movie stars like her can't help this country considering the fact that there are massive unemployment in Nigeria and people are seeking for means to survive via movie. There are lots of upcoming talented, and wonderful actors and actresses seeking for opportunity to prove themselves.

Banning Mercy Johnson is the stupidest thing Nollywood marketers could ever have done or think of. The role an actress picks for a movie might not be too good for her but for the sake of the money involved, she might accept the role and it is very wrong to compare prices. The fact that some actors and actresses collect lesser prices doesn't make it a law.

According to Lindaikeji,
Mercy Johnson is currently the highest paid actress in Nollywood. She charges between N1.8million to N2m to feature in a movie. The others, like Ini and Funke charge between N700k to N1.2million.
For this reason, the actress has been blacklisted by the Nollywood Movie Marketers Association. The ban will not take effect immediately as Mercy has already signed up to do quite a number of movies. She returned on Thursday from a movie location, and will be on the set of another movie from tomorrow, Sunday. She will be traveling out of Nigeria sometime this month and when she returns, will be on another movie set...so she's basically booked till the end of the year.
The idea now is not to ban her after all her current contracts end. So the ban won't take effect until at least January 2014. This is not the first time the movie marketers association will be placing a ban on actors. They did this a few years ago when quite a number of Nollywood actors including Genevieve Nnaji, Ramsey Noah, RMD, Emeka Ike, Jim Iyke and others were blacklisted.
I would advice Nollywood to look into their movies; there are more low standard movies out there and people are loosing interest everyday. Unprofessional Movie producers couldn't let the professional get the respect they deserve.
